Stella Nova offers somatic therapy in California for trauma, anxiety, and chronic stress. Reconnect with your body’s wisdom through movement, mindfulness, and body-based healing.

Therapy to Heal the Mind-Body Connection

Has traditional talk therapy left you unimpressed? That might be because your emotional health doesn’t just happen in your brain. Your mind and body — from your nervous system to your muscles to your hormones — are intimately linked.

Somatic therapy can help you use the mind-body connection to heal holistically.

Our somatic therapists can help you feel more safe and relaxed in your body. You’ll learn to regulate your nervous system, and respond effectively to triggers that come up in your daily life. And ultimately, you’ll be able to get back to the things you care about most — whether that’s family, self-care, career, or just living your life.

What Problems Can Somatic Therapy Treat

What Problems Can Somatic Therapy Treat?

Somatic therapy is often thought of as a trauma treatment — and it’s highly effective at that. It’s also great fit for many problems related to the mind-body connection, such as:

  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Burnout and depression
  • Anxiety and panic
  • Complicated grief
  • Self esteem and relational issues
  • Chronic pain and illness

Meet Sage, Somatic Therapist

Traumatic or painful experiences can leave us disconnected from our bodies. That can serve a protective function, but it can also make it very hard to regulate our emotions.

As a somatic therapist, I can help guide you towards aligning your mind and body. It’s normal to experience overwhelming emotions at times, but somatic therapy can help you respond to those feelings more intentionally. As you learn to regulate your nervous system, you’ll experience more moments of feeling grounded, calm, and safe in your body.

Over time, this creates opportunities not just to cope, but to heal.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can somatic therapy be done online?
Absolutely! Somatic therapy doesn’t require physical touch, so it can absolutely be delivered online. In fact, some people prefer online somatic therapy because they can set up their space just the way they like, for comfort and movement.
Who is somatic therapy good for?
Anyone with a mind and a body can potentially benefit from somatic therapy. We’ve found that people who struggle with intellectualizing or feel disconnected from their emotions often find it especially helpful. It’s also useful in working with people who have been told they’re “too self-aware” for therapy, or who have tried traditional talk therapy before with limited benefit.
What does a somatic therapy session look like?

Somatic therapy combines talk therapy with breathwork, movement, and building awareness of the body. You’ll learn new techniques for regulating your nervous system, and processing emotions as they arise. This is a type of therapy where you’ll go home with lots of usable new skills to apply in your daily life.

How long does somatic therapy take?
The answer to that questions depends on a lot of factors, and will vary from person to person. It will all depend on your goals, needs, and the reasons you’re seeking therapy. For example, someone seeking somatic therapy for complex trauma is more likely to need longer-term treatment than someone dealing with professional burnout.

At Stella Nova, our average client attends about 16 sessions of therapy, although this can range from a handful of sessions to long-term treatment spanning several years. Regardless of whether you’re in short- or long-term therapy, you can expect to learn new skills you can use right away to start feeling better.

What does somatic therapy cost?

Somatic therapists at Stella Nova are currently offering sessions starting at $210. We are a private clinic and not in-network with insurance at this time, but we are happy to provide superbills for reimbursement of out-of-network expenses. You can learn more about that process here.
