Couples Therapy

Strong Relationships Don’t Just Happen.

If you’re looking for a therapist, you’ve probably already taken some steps on your own to fix a problem that keeps coming up in your relationship. Maybe it’s a communication breakdown, or an unhealthy pattern you keep getting stuck in. Whatever it is, trying harder just isn’t working.

In fact, simply trying harder without learning to do something different can be incredibly painful.

That’s where we come in. Our couples therapists are here to help you update your relationship toolkit to navigate new challenges as they come up, or to address old issues that haven’t been resolved.

At Stella Nova, we offer high quality online couples therapy, with services from $192 per 60-minute session.

Couples seek therapy for reasons as diverse as the clients we serve.

  • Learning skills for communicating with each other better
  • Preparing for a big transition like marriage or having kids
  • Navigating cross-cultural differences like race or religion
  • Becoming a stronger and more skilled coparenting team
  • Figuring out how to move forward after a hurt or betrayal
  • Addressing differences in sex drive, needs, and expectations
  • Dealing with how past traumatic experiences are impacting a relationship today
  • Resolving conflict around money and division of household labor
  • Negotiating nonmonogamy or polyamorous relationship structures
  • Deciding whether or not to stay together
  • Breaking out of painful patterns that you keep repeating

Meet Megan, Online Couples Therapist

If your relationship is stuck in the same unhealthy patterns, I’m here to help.

As a Gottman-trained couples therapist, I can help you build the toolkit you need to improve your connection. We’ll build on your strengths, and figure out what skills you need to work on developing together. I work to make sure each partner feels seen and heard.

I strive to be a strong ally to LGBTQ+ communities, and welcome couples of all genders and sexual orientations.

Whether you’re struggling to move past a conflict, or looking to improve your communication, I invite you to reach out and schedule a free consultation!

What to expect in couples therapy at Stella Nova

Your therapist will work to get to know you and your partner together as a couple, and will also get to know your individual concerns and hopes for the relationship.

Then they’ll help you identify the places you’re stuck, and work with you to clarify options for how to move forward. This could involve learning new skills, practicing different ways of interacting with each, or supporting you to have difficult conversations.

Meet Sage, Online Couples Therapist

Conflict is a part of all relationships. It’s how we respond when it comes up that matters.

I help couples learn the skills to move from conflict that’s destructive and hurtful, to conflict that’s generative: grounded in respect, curiosity, and care for each others’ needs. You’ll learn tools to regulate when emotions are running high, so that you’re more attuned and responsive to yourself and your partner.

I specialize in supporting LGBTQIA+ couples, navigating non-monogamy, and issues related to intimacy.

Support for Love’s Many Forms

Stella Nova is an LGBTQIA+ affirming practice that welcomes relationships of all genders and sexual orientations, including kinky and non-monogamous relationships.

Getting Started

The first step to connect with a therapist is to schedule a free consultation call with an Intake Specialist. She’ll chat with you about your needs and hopes for therapy so that she can match you with the best fit for you.

We encourage you and your partner to attend that initial consultation call together. But if you’re researching options for the two of you, we also welcome you speak with us one-on-one first. If you decide to move forward with us, you’ll both have time to share your story and perspective during your first session with the therapist.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is couples therapy for?

Couples therapy is for anyone who wants to improve their relationship with their partner, or wants assistance navigating changes or transitions in their relationship. Some people also attend couples therapy to decide whether to continue a relationship or to part ways. You don’t have to be married or living together or having a relationship crisis to attend. At Stella Nova, we welcome people of all genders, orientations, and relationship structures, including polycules and platonic partners.

Can couples therapy be covered by insurance?

Unfortunately, it can be difficult to get couples therapy covered as insurance companies often do not see it as medically necessary. They are more likely to cover it if treatment is focused on one partner’s diagnosable condition, and its impact on the relationship. If insurance coverage is a must-have, we recommend you speak with your insurance company to ask whether they will cover this service. Please note, we’re not in-network with insurance, but would be happy to provide you with a superbill for reimbursement.

Can couples therapy save my relationship?

Couples therapy can absolutely give partners the tools to improve their communication, resolve conflicts, address past hurts, and improve their intimacy. But there’s no formula that guarantees a relationship will be “saved.” Healing a struggling relationship requires some effort and willingness to make changes on both sides. It cannot force someone to care, and can’t turn an abusive relationship into a loving one. For some couples, therapy can help clarify that it’s time to part ways.

That being said, many people absolutely do credit couples therapy with their ability to weather rough patches and come out stronger on the other side! The benefits to couples can be enormous—and the relationship skills you learn can carry over to your relationships with family and friends as well.

How does couples therapy work online?

Research shows that online couples therapy is generally as effective as in-person sessions. For some couples, it has the added benefit of convenience and comfort of being able to be seen from home, without commute time. We’ve also seen some busy couples via videoconferencing from two different locations when necessary!

How much does couples therapy cost?

Our online couples therapists currently offer hour-long sessions for $252.
